Girls’ Lose, Boys’ Tie at Catlin Gabel Homecoming

The Boys’ Varsity Soccer Team tied 1-1 at the Catlin Gabel homecoming games Friday, Oct. 9, while the Girls’ Varsity Soccer Team lost 6-0.

The final scores were a reversal from last week, on Friday, Oct. 2., when the boys won 2-1, and the girls won 4-0 at OES homecoming.

Co-Team Captain Nora Finley ’16, is looking forward, not backwards. “I was disappointed with the result, obviously, but I’m excited that we have a big game Monday [Oct. 12],” she said. “We can prove that we should be on top, and that we deserve to be first place in league, like we will be soon.”

The Boy’s Varsity Team started the game on a weak note, but quickly stepped it up.

Co-Captain Diego ’16 gave much of the credit to Ian McClanan ’16. “An unstable performance in the first half left us with a 1-0 deficit, but Ian McClanan’s inspiring halftime speech, boosted by a strong showing from Fritz in goal and Luke [Van Buskirk] in the middle, dramatically changed the pace of play and allowed for a 1-1 draw.”

Despite the draw,  which came in stark contrast to their strong win at OES, the Boy’s Varsity team members are also feeling optimistic.

“Overall, in the grand scheme of things, it’s nice to get a tie because we have the opportunity to avenge ourselves,” said Boy’s Varsity player Victor ’18. “And, we don’t have the loss, which doesn’t look good on our record.”

Several players from both teams said they are hoping to win a state championship in the near future.
