The Pacific Northwest is home to dozens of roller derby leagues, including three in Portland. Last weekend teams from all over the area made their way to Kitsap County, Washington for the fifth annual Wild West Showdown.

Wild West featured adult and junior women’s teams from as far as Alberta, Canada, California, and Utah as well as Portland’s own junior team, the Rosebuds, for hard-hitting derby fun.

Because many teams pay their travel expenses out of pocket, being able to attend tournament-style events offers an easy way for teams to play three or four games in a weekend and contribute to their rankings.

This year in the junior games the Rosebuds came home with a win over Lilac City Pixies, but lost to Greater Edmonton Junior Roller Derby Association and the Kitsap Derby Brats who they will play once again in a ranked game two weeks from now.
