A Memorable Night for Boys Basketball

This past Friday night the Catlin Gabel Boys Varsity basketball team took on rival team Oregon Episcopal School (OES) Aardvarks.

This game had serious implications for both teams. OES needed a win to remain in playoff contention, and Catlin Gabel needed a victory to remain fourth seed in league playoffs. In addition to the fourth seed, a win for Catlin Gabel would count as Head Coach Brandon Haughton’s 50th win at Catlin Gabel. Furthermore, it would be the boys basketball program’s first guaranteed 15-win season many years.

The bleachers were packed as the game tipped off, and from that moment the intensity in the gym was at a high point. The first quarter was close as both teams were trading baskets, resulting in an OES lead.

In the second quarter, led by stingy full court team defense, the Eagles were able to gain a significant lead. The second half followed the same story as the second quarter.

Catlin Gabel ultimately won the game 71-58, led by 24 points by Vishal Vanka ‘16 and another 24 points by Jacob Adler ‘17. The win eliminated OES from the playoffs and granted Coach Haughton his 50th win.

Next, the boys have an important game against Riverdale, serving as Catlin Gabel’s senior night, on Thursday.
