We always see you in suits and ties. What do you wear on Saturday mornings?
A suit and tie. I wear one to bed.
Actually, usually pajama bottoms then sweat pants…and my “Trust me I’m a Politician” T-shirt.
What was your favorite band/song when you were a senior in high school?
Pearl Jam 10 came out the year I graduated; Black still gets me deeply.
I went to high school during a time in music that didn’t hold up very well. Some would call it a terrible period. I must admit, I loved some embarrassing hits from acts like Boys 2 Men, Jesus Jones, LL Cool J, Guns & Roses, and Whitney Houston. Nirvana and Pearl Jam rescued popular music for music critics just as I was finishing high school.
If you were a character in a TV show, who would you be?
On my better days, Leslie Knope from Parks and Rec, on my less good days Andy (from the same show).
When you were a senior in high school, what career did you think you’d have?
My dream job was to be general manager of the Los Angeles Dodgers. I thought that being a lawyer might be more likely.
What is your favorite movie?
Shawshank Redemption. The movie that impacted my life the most was Rudy. I first watched it in college, right around the time that I was inspired to get more serious about school. I ended up getting into and graduating from Harvard Law School.
What is your favorite ice cream flavor? Do you have a favorite ice cream shop in Portland?
Peanut Butter Chocolate. I love Burgerville’s seasonal milkshakes.
What is your favorite food cart?
There’s a food cart pod in my part of town. My favorite is Smokin’ Jim’s BBQ.
What is your most embarrassing moment?
There have been moments from this campaign I’d like to take back. As far as more lighthearted things, I stole 3 lollipops when I was 13. My Dad grounded me, and posted the lollipops on the wall above the hallway door, so that I (and others) would be reminded of my sin.
What’s your best memory of your time in Portland?
I have so many. Some good moments in high school (at Grant). Probably the best memory was when I proposed to my wife, Katy.
What is your favorite coffee shop in Portland?
I’m not a big coffee drinker, but I love the Bi-Partisan Cafe in Montavilla.
